Embed Youtube Video - not working in PowerPoint

One of the agreeable features in PowerPoint 2010 is, (well currently was) the ability to Embed a Youtube video into a slide. Actually the video was never embedded at all, but PowerPoint linked to Youtube and played the video in the presentation without having to leave the slide. Sometime recently this feature stopped working, (I saw it work last on 14th February 2013).

There's a work round available, which has changed from earlier fixes. Read on. Do note that if you are using PowerPont 2013, the option to insert Youtube videos is no longer available. If there are no copyright concerns, you can download a youtube video, and insert it locally. Look at Freemake video converter which downloads Youtube videos and coverts them to WMV files (etc)

As a reminder - it was done like this. On the PowerPoint ribbon Insert tab >Video>Video from Web site.

Which then brings up a box in which to paste an Embed Code

Now, from a youtube video page, click on share>embed, and select the box "Use old Embed Code"

-Then copy the code highlighted, and paste it into the PowerPoint "insert video" box and click insert

The box will disappear and a video window replace it. Then, when in Presentation mode the Youtube video appears.

Now, for whatever reason, this no longer works. Writing again in autumn 2013 it seems that previous fixes don't work either. There's a new fix: Update: Find the text "version=3&" which occurs twice, and change both instances of the figure 3 to figure2 - giving you version=2& and change both instances of "//www. to http://www
The Video should now work.
- if you attempt to insert the video without editing the code, it's likely that PowerPoint will lock up.
